Vineyard Character: Located about two miles west of Sebastopol on Pleasant Hill Rd. (in an area known as Sebastopol Hills), the 18-acre Jenkins Ranch is situated on gently rolling hills at an elevation of approximately 400 feet. Another one of our vineyards that was once an apple orchard, Jenkins Ranch features Goldridge series gravelly loam soils planted to Dijon selections 667, 115 and 777. These vines were planted under the guidance of renowned vineyard manager Charlie Chenoweth in 2001, and consistently produce extraordinarily small yields, highlighting beautiful Sonoma Coast red-fruit flavors, high acidity and ethereal aromatics.

Tasting Notes: Though Jenkins Ranch is historically known for its red-fruit flavors, the character of the 2009 vintage has brought an extra measure of depth and suppleness to this wine, moving red cherry elements more into the black cherry spectrum, alongside ripe boysenberry and floral layers, as well as lavender, licorice, brown sugar and savory teriyaki notes. Though this wine offers remarkable density on the palate, with big extract and soft, round tannins, there is also a tempering freshness and lift that bodes well for this wine’s longevity.

Vineyard Character: This vineyard often exhibits classic Carneros flavors of strawberries and raspberries mingled with mocha, espresso and cinnamon. Our HYDE VINEYARD - Carneros Pinot Noir consists of a veritable who’s who of the finest Pinot clones. Though this wine focuses on a core of Hyde-Calera grapes, it also includes Dijon 777, 667, 115, Pommard and Bebe clone fruit. As a result, it is at once delicate and fascinatingly intricate, while at the same time being dense, deeply colored and extracted.

Tasting Notes: This wine is both extremely rich and super supple, with fine-grained, mouthfilling tannins, balanced oak and an intriguing dusty quality. The aromas are alluring and sophisticated, offering layers of raspberry, cranberry, blueberry, sassafras, milk chocolate, cinnamon, clove and cassis. A classic expression of Hyde vineyard—powerful, elegant and intricate.

Vineyard Character: This single-vineyard Chardonnay is crafted from Larry Hyde’s low yielding Hyde-Wente selection grapes, and consistently delivers scents of orange peel and orange blossom, alongside flavors of fresh green apple, orange marmalade and ginger.

Tasting Notes: This is one of our finest bottlings of Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay in memory, and like many of our wines from the spectacular 2009 vintage, it is richly textured with beautiful density and depth. The nose offers classic Hyde notes of marmalade and ginger, with layers of cedar and smoke adding a complex counterpoint. On the palate, the citrus and orange peel flavors combine with notes of summer melon, grilled pineapple, pear, cinnamon, clove and a hint of honey. Though the acidity is subtle and integrated, in tandem with Hyde’s signature minerality, it gives the wine energy and drive.

Vineyard Character: Like several of our finest vineyards, Chenoweth Ranch was originally cultivated as an apple orchard. Planted on the far western edge of the Russian River Valley appellation, this beautiful 7-acre vineyard is located in Green Valley, one of the region’s coolest areas, and is farmed exclusively for Patz & Hall. Though enjoying excellent sunlight from it slight south-facing orientation, the vineyard is sheltered by steep western hills, which protect the grapes from late-afternoon baking, while helping the fruit to retain lively natural acidity. This meticulously cared-for vineyard consistently produces fresh strawberry and Bing cherry flavors.

Tasting Notes: A standout bottling from the 2006 vintage, this powerhouse Pinot Noir offers a flamboyant and cascading wine drinking experience. Deftly combining both high-tone and bass notes, it displays concentrated, red-fruit flavors of plum skin, cherry and pomegranate, alongside deeper layers of maple syrup, blackberry and wood smoke. Reminiscent of our voluptuous 2004 Pinot bottlings, this wine offers fireworks in a glass, with big, sweet tannins and appealing maturity.

2010 Dutton Ranch - Russian River Valley Chardonnay:
With a long, cool summer that promoted even ripening and ample hangtime, the 2010 growing season proved excellent for Burgundian varietals. In broad strokes, there is beautiful freshness to this wine, with clearly delineated vineyard character. At the same time, the modest crop size in 2010 has contributed to amazing concentration, spotlighting notes of spiced tropical peach, pear, honeydew, clove and narcissus. The mid-palate is vibrant and bright, combining delicate, mouthwatering acidity with rich fruit, all surrounded by subtle, oak-inspired notes of cinnamon, spiced toffee and roasted almonds.

2010 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

Though the tannins are creamy, rich and fine-grained, there is a bright acidity that penetrates the tannins and keeps the wine light and lively. While the wine’s energy and high-tone red-fruit notes are a constant from start to finish, deeper notes of chocolate, moist earth and forest floor offer balance and add complexity. A great wine that’s reminiscent of the exceptional 2007 vintage.
