Archer Family Vineyard is owned and operated by Gary Archer, who is part of a multigenerational farming family in the Russian River Valley. Gary is also a longtime and well-respected wine industry professional. Though the Archers have had their family property for many years, we only began working with this exceptional fruit in 2006. This is our inaugural wine club bottling from this vineyard.
Archer Family Vineyard is located on a very steep hillside with a southeast exposure and features a series of Sebastopol clay loam soils. The Archers farm a 5-acre piece of their vineyard exclusively for Patz & Hall. This vineyard block is situated on a single rising hill with shallow soils, and is planted to Dijon 777 and Pommard clone vines. Because the vineyard is located in the somewhat warmer northern end of the Russian River Valley, it produces big, extracted fruit with dark brooding elements of blackberry, plum and mulled black cherry. This wine was crafted exclusively from the Dijon 777 fruit.
100% Pinot Noir; Multi-yeast fermentations (wild & cultured); 100% malo-lactic fermentation in barrel; 50% new Burgundian French oak barrels; Bottled without fining or filtration
