Vineyard Character: This famous vineyard site is situated above the Salinas Valley near Gonzales. Perched on a sandy mesa above the fertile ground of the valley, the Pisoni Vineyard is ground zero for superlative Pinot Noir from the Santa Lucia Highlands. Reflecting a perfect convergence of aspect, site and soil, Pisoni consistently yields grapes with remarkable power and complexity, highlighted by pure raspberry and cherry flavors. Tasting Notes: From its hypnotic aromatics to its voluptuous red-fruit intensity, the 2005 Pisoni possesses an almost otherworldly level of charisma and concentration. Though epic in stature, this wine is still irrefutably Pinot Noir, offering potent framboise, strawberry and cherry layers, accentuated by nuanced elements of chocolate, clove, cardamom and herbes de Provence. Bringing together beautiful structure and ripeness, soft plush tannins and a refreshing openness, this vibrant Pinot finishes with a prolonged and satisfying note of pure red cherry.
