Vineyard Character: Like several of our finest vineyards, Chenoweth Ranch was originally cultivated as an apple orchard. Planted on the far western edge of the Russian River appellation, this beautiful 7-acre vineyard is located in Green Valley, one of the region’s coolest areas, and is farmed exclusively for Patz & Hall. Though enjoying excellent sunlight from it slight south-facing orientation, the vineyard is sheltered by steep western hills, which protect the grapes from late-afternoon baking, while helping the fruit to retain lively natural acidity. This meticulously cared-for vineyard consistently produces fresh strawberry and Bing cherry flavors.
Tasting Notes: One of the stars of the 2005 vintage, our Chenoweth Ranch Pinot Noir offers classic Russian River red-fruit aromatics of cherry, strawberry and framboise liqueur. On the palate, these fetching high-tone aromas transform into pure varietal flavors of cranberry and ripe cherry. With plush tannins, good grip and bright acidity, this complex, concentrated wine will age beautifully.
Winemaking: 100% Pinot Noir; Multi-yeast fermentations (wild & cultured) ; 100% malo-lactic fermentation in barrel; 50% new Burgundian French oak barrels; Bottled without filtration
