2009 Moses-Hall Vineyard - Carneros Pinot Noir View Enlarged Image
Vineyard Character: As the name implies, Moses-Hall Vineyard is owned by Patz & Hall co-founders Anne Moses and James Hall. Anne and James purchased the property (which is located between Hudson and Hyde vineyards in the southern part of Carneros) in 1999. The vineyard is situated on an uplifted knoll with well-draining gravelly soils, and was planted to James and Anne’s specifications to five selections of Pinot Noir: 777, Swan, Calera, 828 and 115. With more than a decade of vine age, the vineyard has begun consistently producing grapes that produce lovely layers of red fruit and blackberry notes, as well as darker more savory elements.

Tasting Notes: This is a plush and supple expression of Pinot Noir, with lovely volume and weight that lingers on the palate. The aromas showcase Chambord, black cherry and plum, as well as layers of mulling spice, cola, cocoa and dark espresso bean. These elements are echoed in the flavors, alongside dark fruit and cinnamon stick notes, and oak-inspired hints of maple syrup. The tannins are smooth and velvety, and the wine’s medium acidity offers a cleansing note to the lengthy finish.

Winemaking:
100% Pinot Noir
Multi-yeast fermentations (wild & cultured)
15% whole clusters
100% malo-lactic fermentation in barrel
50% new Burgundian French oak barrels
Bottled without fining or filtration
