Vineyard Character: This single-vineyard Chardonnay is crafted from Larry Hyde’s low yielding Hyde-Wente selection grapes, and consistently delivers scents of orange peel and orange blossom, alongside flavors of fresh green apple, orange marmalade and ginger.
Tasting Notes: This is one of our finest bottlings of Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay in memory, and like many of our wines from the spectacular 2009 vintage, it is richly textured with beautiful density and depth. The nose offers classic Hyde notes of marmalade and ginger, with layers of cedar and smoke adding a complex counterpoint. On the palate, the citrus and orange peel flavors combine with notes of summer melon, grilled pineapple, pear, cinnamon, clove and a hint of honey. Though the acidity is subtle and integrated, in tandem with Hyde’s signature minerality, it gives the wine energy and drive.
Winemaking: 100% Chardonnay fruit; Whole-cluster pressed; 100% indigenous yeast fermentations (wild); Sur lie aged with weekly stirring; 100% malo-lactic fermentation in barrel; 40% new Burgundian French oak barrels; Bottled without filtration
